Workshops & Classes

“I hear and I forget.  I see and I remember.  I do and I understand.”

Chinese Proverb

I’m a faculty member at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland where I teach Basic Photography, Intermediate Photography, and Photography Appreciation.  In addition to these classes in the credit program, I often teach Print on Demand Publishing in the Continuing Education Program.

I also conduct workshops at Photoworks at Glen Echo, which is located close to Washington, DC.  The specific workshops vary from season to season, but they usually center around various alternative photographic processes.  I frequently teach Temperaprint, a printmaking process akin to gum bichromate, which was invented and developed by the late Peter Fredrick.  Workshops are hands-on experiences and are limited to six participants.

Upcoming workshops in 2012/2013 are:

Cyanotype: Whether you are new to non-silver processes or not, this one-day workshop promises to be a lot of fun. We will make cyanotype photographs, photograms, and collages. We’ll tone, hand-color, and overprint gum bichromate. Creativity reigns!

Photoworks at Glen Echo, Sunday October 28 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Duotone Temperaprints:  An Alternative Process:  This workshop blends old and new technologies to produce beautiful one-of-a-kind alternative photographic prints.  We will make duotone images with temperaprint, an emulsion of light sensitive chemicals, acrylic paint and egg.  Duotones use two colors to produce a beautiful, long-tone image.

Photoworks at Glen Echo, Sunday February 17, 2013  10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Print on Demand Books: No workshops are currently scheduled, but Barbara can provide private tuition to help you produce a high quality photography book through print on demand publishers.
